Abstrakt:
While various news poems, songs, and ballads about natural and other disasters have been recognized in Hungarian folklore studies, as well as in historical and literary research, their systematic exploration and analysis have not been comprehensively undertaken. This study aims to address the themes that emerged during the 18th to 20th centuries and to identify the major
transformations the genre underwent. Additionally, it investigates the differences between the songs found on printed sheets and those transmitted orally.
The foundation of this presentation is a
survey of chapbook materials from the main public institutions in Hungary, with a systematic review of the holdings of the Hungarian National Library. Furthermore, I will analyze folklore materials from the 19th and 20th centuries to provide a comprehensive overview.
