She graduated in Czech and Latin at the Faculty of Arts in Brno. She began her professional career as a dialectologist at the Brno branch of the academic ÚČJ, but later returned to her alma mater as a teacher and linguist, where she continues to work. From 1999 to 2014, she led the Institute of the Czech Language at the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University, and was involved in numerous research projects, including serving as chair of the board of the Research Center for the Development of Old and Middle Czech. Her main focus is on onomastics, the history of Czech, and dialectology. She is the author of many significant scripts, scholarly studies, and monographs, such as Tvoření pomístních jmen na Moravě a ve Slezsku (1992), Tvoření nejstarších českých osobních jmen (1998), and Vývoj vlastních jmen osobních v českých zemích v letech 1000–2010 (2011). She is a co-author of the Český jazykový atlas (1, 1992; 2, 1997; 3, 1999). As a co-author and co-editor, she contributed to several essential compendial publications of the Institute of the Czech Language at the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University, the most important of which are Kapitoly z dějin české jazykovědné bohemistiky (2007), Encyklopedický slovník češtiny (2002), and Nový encyklopedický slovník češtiny online (2017). She utilizes her extensive linguistic knowledge as a member of the editorial board of the journal Acta onomnastica. She has mentored many doctoral students who, together with her, continue to develop the traditionally strong diachronic Bohemian studies at the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University. She has also applied her teaching experience as the vice-chair of the permanent working group of the Accreditation Commission for Philology and Literary Science.
