Dvanácte vrchů ten strom má. Kramářské and pilgrimage prints with religious themes

3 Jun 2024

From April 22nd to June 6th, 2024, an exhibition titled "Dvanácte vrchů ten strom má: Kramářské a poutní tisky s náboženskou tematikou" (Twelve hills, that tree has: Kramářské and pilgrimage prints with religious themes) was on display in the foyer of Building B2.

The exhibition showcased Czech folk songs with spiritual themes, created through collaboration between four Brno institutions: the Moravian Museum, Masaryk University, the Moravian Library, and the Institute of Ethnology of the Czech Academy of Sciences.

Against the backdrop of the Christian liturgical year, the exhibition presented both well-known and lesser-known saints and holidays, their reflection in folk songs, and popular culture. Among the most numerous were songs associated with the song compositions published in hymnals, while the most distinctive were contemplative, supplicatory, or prayerful songs. There were also narrative songs about saints, and pilgrimage songs were not absent. Through textual, visual, and musical material, the exhibition connected seemingly unrelated and seemingly outdated topics with real life and the present.

Its ceremonial conclusion took place on June 3rd in the foyer of Building B2. You can view photos from the event in the gallery below.
